Tesla – or Tesla, Inc. as it’s called – is an American automotive and energy company specializing in electric cars, electric drivetrain components, solar panels, and home energy storage. The company is named after the renowned physicist and inventor Nikola Tesla. The automaker has always been at the forefront of electric vehicles, and here are ten facts you should know about their battery-powered vehicles and the company!

Tesla wants to make the world a better place…

According to a Tesla blog post published by Elon Musk in 2014, all technical patents from the company are open source. Essentially, they are free for other automakers to use. Musk believes that the application of this philosophy will strengthen the brand rather than hinder its technological progress. Their mission statement says it all: “Tesla’s mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy“. [source]

Their commitment to safety is top priority…

Safety is a must in all cars, but Tesla works hard to claim the title of the world’s safest car brand. Elon Musk even stated during a speech in Fremont, California (2017) that the Volvo S60 is probably the second safest car, with the Model 3 taking the top spot. The company then shared crash test results on Twitter and a video of the crash test on which Elon based his claim. Many of their crash tests have been compared favorably to crash tests of the Volvo S60 model. [source]

The cheapest luxury electric car on the market…

Inspired by a true innovator…

The company is, perhaps unsurprisingly, named after the legendary Nikola Tesla. Nikola was a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer and innovator. He is best known for his contributions to the design of our modern alternating current (AC) electrical supply system. It made perfect sense to name a sustainable energy company after him. If Mr. Tesla were alive today, he would probably be more than honored! [source]

Built to your specifications…

You can’t just walk into a dealership and buy a Tesla car on the spot. This is common Tesla knowledge, but you are still welcome to view the display vehicles or ask questions. To purchase a Tesla, you need to place an order. You start with the Design Studio, customizing a car that fits your preferences and needs, which is then tailored at the factory in California, USA. Once your car is built, it is shipped to the nearest service center for pickup. [source]
