Kentucky Fried Chicken – perhaps better known as KFC – is a fast food chain with its roots in the USA, which has also established itself in several other countries, including Sweden. KFC primarily sells fried chicken, and the familiar face you can find on its logo is the fast food chain’s founder, Harland Sanders. If you haven’t tried their fried chicken here in Sweden yet, you may have come across one of their restaurants abroad. Here are ten facts you should know about KFC!

KFC is as secretive as the Coca-Cola recipe…

To keep the recipe for their deliciously seasoned chicken pieces a secret, there is a company that mixes the first half of the 11 spices. It is then sent to McCormick, which adds the second half of the mix before sending it back to KFC restaurants. [source]

Japanese Christmas tradition…

KFC is so popular on Christmas Eve in Japan that people have to pre-order their dinners weeks in advance or, in the worst case, queue for several hours to get their chicken. [source]

Clever marketing…

In 2009, the restaurant chain offered cities across the United States to fix potholes for free on small roads, with the condition that there would be a decal on the repaired pothole saying “Re-Freshed by KFC“. One of the cities that took up the offer was Louisville, where they fixed potholes for a total cost of $3,000. [source]
